Bible Story:

Joseph Forgives His Brothers
Genesis 42-45

Welcome / Intro

“Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the greatest show on earth, the Motion Circus! I’m your ringmaster ___your name__, and I am happy to see you’ve returned for this final show, playing one day and one day only! If you’ve been to the Motion Circus before, you know that we’ve walked the high wire, tested our flexibility, and put our balance and poise to the test. Why take these risks? Because we are daring to trust this month! Take a look at the screen and repeat after me:

(refer to the screen)

Trust is putting your confidence in someone you can depend on.

We’ve been following a man named Joseph as he’s had to learn to trust God through a lot of difficult situations. Joseph’s older brothers had sold him as a slave and let their father believe he was killed by wild animals. Though Joseph had faced many difficult years in Egypt, he continued to trust God, even when it seemed like he was forgotten. Let’s find out what happens at the end of Joseph’s life and find out how God has taken care of Joseph. Take a look at the screen!”

Connect Questions / Dismissal to eGroups

“All throughout Joseph’s life with all the twists and turns, there were plenty of times that he must have been wondering what in the world God was doing. But he trusted that God had a plan, and that God’s plan was much bigger and better than Joseph could have ever imagined. Joseph could trust God no matter what, and you can too! When you are facing something you don’t understand, you have to remember that:

(refer to the screen)

You can trust God no matter what!

Before you head back to your eGroups, I want you to circle around your eGroup leaders because I’ve got a few questions I want you to answer. Take 10 seconds and circle around them now.

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: Do you think Joseph should have forgiven his brothers after what they did to him? Why or why not? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: When have you had to forgive someone who did something mean to you? Discus that question now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Final question: Even though Joseph didn’t understand God’s plan, he trusted that God would be there for him. What do you need to start trusting God about in your life?

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answer coming from your eGroups today. Right now it’s time to head back to our eGroups, so when I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can stand up and follow them back.”

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we dive back in to High Wire, let’s take a moment and welcome a special group of people who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

[VIP Slide – Lanyard]

When you leave Motion, you need to take that lanyard to the orange tent called the Welcome Area.

[VIP Slide – Welcome Area]

Once you get to the Welcome Area, show them your lanyard and they will give you a gift!

[VIP Slide – Gift]

Let’s review.

[VIP Slide – All Combined]

VIP Lanyard + Welcome Area = Gift.”

Worship Intro

“Now Motion, it’s time for us to sing and worship God. The Bible is filled with amazing promises, and one of those is that God is for us. Every single day we can hold on to that truth. Let’s sing and celebrate that God is on our side. Stand to your feet as we sing ‘Alive!’”

Worship Song – Wake

Worship Song – Grace Like A Wave

Game Setup – The Human Cannonball

“Great job, Motion! Everybody can have a seat as we prepare to play today’s game.

(wait for kids to be seated)

Everyone knows that the circus is the greatest show on Earth. It’s got high flying acrobatics and death defying stunts, but none as amazing as one of the most classic circus tricks, the Human Cannonball. In this act, a person gets launched out of a giant cannon and hurtles through the sky at insane speeds and crashes to the Earth while, hopefully, landing safely. Let me show you what I’m talking about – check out the screen!

(refer to the video on the screen)

Now I left my giant cannon at home, so I can’t launch any of you out of one, but we can launch these little guys

(hold up one of the finger launchers)

towards the pool of water across the room. Each kid in line will receive their own acrobat and when it’s your turn, you’ll try to launch him towards the target. If your acrobat lands outside the board you won’t receive any points. If he lands on the board you’ll receive 3 points and if you can land him aside the pool of water at the top of the board, you’ll receive 10 points and the cheers and applause of your teammates.

After you launch your acrobat, you’ll have to go retrieve him and come back to your eGroup’s line before the next person can take their shot. eGroup leaders will keep track of their teams’ points as we put a 2 minute timer on the screen and see which eGroup can earn the most points in the time limit.

Everyone stand up, form a line with your eGroups facing the targets, then we’ll hand out your acrobats and get started. Stand up now and let’s get ready play!”

252 Movie Intro

“Great job, Motion! Everybody have a seat.

(wait for kids to be seated)

Motion, throughout High Wire we learned…

(refer to main point slide)

You can trust God no matter what.

It’s one of the most important things you can know about God, and it can change how you face every difficult situation in life. Truthfully, most of us will never face ferocious lions or terrifying tigers, but we will face scary situations in life, like moving, or one of your parent’s losing their job, or someone you love gets really sick. And believing that truth that you can trust God no matter what will help you be brave and have peace, no matter what you face!

As we close out our series called High Wire, let’s take one final look at the life of Joseph and see if we can learn one more great lesson about what it means to trust God. Take a look at the screen for a ‘unique’ way of telling the lessons from Joseph’s life.”

Bring It! Challenge Setup

““It’s been a fantastic month here at the Motion Circus, but like all great circuses, the show has to come to a close. Next week we begin a series called Fear Inc., so make sure you’re back for what’s sure to be an incredible experience.

Motion, it’s time for us to circle around our eGroup leaders for the Bring It! Challenge. Take 10 seconds and circle around your eGroup leader now.

(give kids 10 seconds to circle around their leader)

For the Bring It! Challenge, you’ll be saying your memory verse and finding it in your Bible for your eGroup leader for a chance to play the High Wire Disk Drop. If you’ve got your Bibles, open them now and let’s begin!
