Welcome  / Talent Show

“Welcome to Motion and welcome to our series called Star Search! During this series we’ll be following Rosie for the popular Finders series as she works to become a contestant on a TV show called Star Search. Before we check out today’s episode, I want to search for some future stars who might be attending Motion today.

Talent come in many different forms. We may have kids here who are great at singing, dancing, or we may even have some future artists in the room, but the talent we want to identify today is a little more loud. That’s because today we’re going to find out who can make the most realistic animal noise!

When I call on you to come up to the stage, you’ll say your name and then give us your best animal call. It could be a cow mooing, a bird chirping, a cat meowing, or even an alligator doing whatever it is alligators do. Raise your hands if you want to come up here and give it your best shot!

(Call on five kids to participate and burp the loudest. Introduce the kids to the audience first and make them feel welcome. Congratulate them after they get done. If this game flops or kids don’t want to participate, you can choose a more general talent like most pushups in 30 seconds, who can jump the highest, or other physical activities that would be fun to watch.)

Motion, all of our contestants did an outstanding job, but I’ve got to choose a winner from this amazing group. Today’s winner of the animal call contest is _____________! Motion, give __________ and all of our contestants a big round of applause for competing!”

Star Search Episode 2 Setup

“Last week we watched Rosie from our popular Finders series as she began her journey to appear on the television show called Star Search. At the end of the episode, though, we saw that Rosie decided that in order to better fit in with the popular crowd, she changed her look in a pretty big way. Let’s see how her new look affects her attitude in today’s episode of Star Search!”

Connect Questions / Dismissal to eGroups

“Uh oh, Motion. Looks like Rosie has started to make some pretty bad choices. I think Rosie needs to start learning how to stand up for what’s right, even when it’s unpopular. Hey Motion, did you know that there are some people in this room who have some experience with that? That’s right! Your eGroup leaders have had some experience wi this before, so let’s circle around our leaders and we’ll answer a few questions together. Do that now.

Alright, I’m going to ask you a few questions and you can answer the question with your eGroup. First question: How do you think Rosie felt watching Tiffany and the girls be mean to her friend Tyson? Take three minutes to answer that question with your eGroups.

(give kids three minutes to talk)

Okay, next question: have you ever had to stand up to someone who you saw do something wrong? If so, how did that person react? Take three minutes to answer that question.

(give kids three minutes to answer the question)

Ok, last question! How do you think God wants us to react when we see people doing things they shouldn’t?

(give kids three minutes to answer the question)

Motion, these are such important questions because some day we might find ourselves in a similar position as Rosie at the end of today’s episode. Right now, I want to send you all back to your eGroups where you can talk more about how we can stand up for what’s right, even when it’s not popular. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can stand up and follow them back to your eGroup.”

(dismiss eGroups by calling eGroup leaders’ names)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we have some more fun, let’s take a moment and welcome a special group of people who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

[VIP Slide – Lanyard]

When you leave Motion, you need to take that lanyard to the orange tent called the Welcome Area.

[VIP Slide – Welcome Area]

Once you get to the Welcome Area, show them your lanyard and they will give you a gift!

[VIP Slide – Gift]

Let’s review.

Game Setup – New Summer Style

“In today’s episode of Star Search we saw that Rosie has taken her style to the extreme with her makeover. Now, changing your style can be a good thing, especially since it’s getting warmer outside and summer is going to be here pretty quick. In today’s game it’s up to you to give one person a brand new summer style.

Each eGroup will sit together on the floor. Each round we’ll send one kid from each eGroup to the front to stand in front of this poster with a picture of a girl ready for a new summer style. We’ll hand you a box of markers and then we’ll tell you what you need to draw on the person’s face to complete their new style.

Here’s the trick, though: you’re going to be blindfolded while you draw, making this so much more fun. While blindfolded you’ll have to choose which markers to use and draw the items I name as best you can on the poster.

After one minute I’ll ask you all to take off your blindfolds and then we’ll see which of you were able to most accurately draw the things I asked you to.

Circle around your eGroup leaders now and we’ll prepare to play ‘New Summer Style!’”

(use the Talking Point cards to find the items that kid will draw on the face)

Bring It! Challenge Setup

“Motion, you all did an amazing job playing ‘New Summer Style!’ Go ahead and find a seat with your eGroup leader and we’ll remove the game supplies before we talk about the Bring It! Challenge for Star Search.

(remove supplies from eGroups)

Motion, during Star Search you’ll have the opportunity to participate in the Bring It! Challenge, which will reward you for finding and reciting your memory verse as well as talking to your eGroup leaders about conviction. Turn to your eGroup leaders and they’ll tell you more about it now.”

Dismissal Activity Setup

“Your parents are on their way to pick you up, but before they do, I want to play one more game where we check out some other people’s talents. We’ll watch a clip from a talent show on television and then I’ll ask you a few questions about what you saw. Check out the screen!”
