COMMITMENT: Making a plan and putting it into practice.
Series Memory Verse: “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” 1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV)
Main Point: Practice praying to God.
Bible Story: Model Prayer | Luke 11:1-4
January is often a time when we think about new year’s resolutions and what we need to adjust to make the new year, our best year ever. But goals are nothing without a strategy and a way to reach them. The same is true for practicing our faith.
Growing in faith is not something that happens by simply cramming information about the Bible into a our brains. The knowledge in our heads means nothing if we don’t experience what that knowledge can do in their heart. To experience faith, we need to practice it and that takes commitment. We can make a plan and stick to it by committing to practicing faith by reading God’s Word, praying to Him consistently, talking about Him with friends, and living out our faith every day.
This weekend we remembered that we can practice praying to God.
Practice praying to God. We can pray anytime, anywhere because God is always listening. Talking to God is an important part of growing in their faith, because God knows us and wants to hear from us.
At dinner this week, ask:
- Share with each other how and when you like to talk with God.
- What is something you want to accomplish in your life that will take commitment and practice?
The Bring It! Challenge
We want kids to Bring It! to church. The Bring It! Challenge encourages Motion kids to bring themselves, their Bible, and scripture they’ve learned to Motion. Not only can kids be rewarded for bringing it, but the Bring It! Challenge is a fun way to grow and learn more about God and how He wants us to live.
During Work It Out, kids can earn fun prizes each week. Kids have to FIND 1 Timothy 4:8, in their Bible, RECITE it from memory, and SAY what our series virtue, committment, means!
