Bible Story: Who do you say I am? | Matthew 16:13-20
January is often a time when we think about new year’s resolutions and what we need to adjust to make the new year, our best year ever. But goals are nothing without a strategy and a way to reach them. The same is true for practicing our faith.
Growing in faith is not something that happens by simply cramming information about the Bible into a our brains. The knowledge in our heads means nothing if we don’t experience what that knowledge can do in their heart. To experience faith, we need to practice it and that takes commitment. We can make a plan and stick to it by committing to practicing faith by reading God’s Word, praying to Him consistently, talking about Him with friends, and living out our faith every day.
This weekend we remembered that we can practice talking about God.
We can know God better by talking about Him with others. But this isn’t just about talking about Jesus with people who don’t know Him yet. There’s also another important element of talking about God. As we process our growing faith, we’ll have questions and doubts. When we practice talking about God, we learn how to talk through our questions about God with others who believe in Jesus.
At dinner this week, ask:
- Who can you share with about what God is doing in your life?
- Who in your life needs to hear about God for the first time?
- Who can you invite to church?
The Bring It! Challenge
We want kids to Bring It! to church. The Bring It! Challenge encourages Motion kids to bring themselves, their Bible, and scripture they’ve learned to Motion. Not only can kids be rewarded for bringing it, but the Bring It! Challenge is a fun way to grow and learn more about God and how He wants us to live.
During Work It Out, kids can earn fun prizes each week. Kids have to FIND 1 Timothy 4:8, in their Bible, RECITE it from memory, and SAY what our series virtue, committment, means!
