CONTENTMENT: Deciding to be okay with what you have.
Series Memory Verse: “Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:15 (NIV)
Main Point: Stuff can’t keep you happy.
Bible Story: Don’t Be Controlled By Money | Hebrews 13:5
Everything we have comes from God. He is faithful to provide what we need. And even more than things we can own, God also provides what we need to face whatever happens in our lives. God has proven time and again, that we can trust Him no matter what. So we could choose to complain or become jealous of what others have, or we can choose to respond with contentment, knowing God has a plan for our lives.
In Hebrews 13:5, the writer of Hebrews wrote about contentment and warned the Hebrews not to love, or be controlled by, money. The writer reminds us that nothing we own can ever make us happy. Our focus should be on our relationship with God.
Stuff can’t keep you happy. Getting something new can be exciting, and even make you happy for some time. But as we know, that feeling of happiness doesn’t last forever because what we own was never meant to fulfill us. We hope that kids leave with the idea that only God can satisfy their needs and give them joy no matter what they do or don’t own.
At bedtime, read Hebrews 13:5. Pray that you will grow closer to God and not depend on the things you own to make you happy.
