Motion :: Week of October 22

Courage: Taking the first step, even when something is difficult.
Series Memory Verse: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
Main Point: I can show courage by being truthful.
Bible Story:
Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of a Tree  Daniel 4

Every day we have a choice: to stand up and be courageous or to step back into the crowd. But this choice is not always as easy as we might think. The strength to take the first step toward doing the right thing can be difficult to find.

In this series, we’ll join Alex in the land of Aethasia, a place where courage is born and heroes are made. We’ll study the Bible hero, Daniel, who exemplifies what it means to show courage in the face of adversity, and we’ll help kids see their own opportunities to be courageous every day.

The Aetherlight: A Finders Adventure | Episode 3 from Elevation Church eKidz on Vimeo.

This week read Daniel 4 with your family. It would already be scary to interpret a dream for the king knowing the king could’ve had Daniel killed if he was wrong about what the dream meant. But it would have been REALLY scary for Daniel to tell the king the truth — that the dream meant the king would lose his whole kingdom and be completely rejected by his people. Daniel was brave and told the truth anyway. When Daniel chose the truth, God took care of the rest!

It’s easy to tell the truth when you know people will like the truth. But when the truth could get you in trouble or make someone upset, it can be tempting to hide the truth or even cover it up with a lie. Even when it’s difficult, it’s important to find the courage to tell the truth. Just like we saw in our Bible story, God can still do good things in a situation where the truth seems scary!
