Bible Story: Sand and Rock | Matthew 7:24-27
January is often a time when we think about new year’s resolutions and what we need to adjust to make the new year, our best year ever. But goals are nothing without a strategy and a way to reach them. The same is true for practicing our faith.
Growing in faith is not something that happens by simply cramming information about the Bible into a our brains. The knowledge in our heads means nothing if we don’t experience what that knowledge can do in their heart. To experience faith, we need to practice it and that takes commitment. We can make a plan and stick to it by committing to practicing faith by reading God’s Word, praying to Him consistently, talking about Him with friends, and living out our faith every day.
This weekend we learned that we can practice hearing and doing what God says.
Practice hearing and doing what God says. We can’t do what God says until we know what God says, and that begins with listening to God. When we hear what God says, we can discover how we can navigate and personalize God’s Word.
At dinner this week, ask:
- How can you commit to building a strong foundation for your faith in God? (memorize His Word, read the Bible, pray, talk to others about God, worship Him, practice doing what God says)
- Share with your kid how you hear from God.
The Bring It! Challenge
We want kids to Bring It! to church. The Bring It! Challenge encourages Motion kids to bring themselves, their Bible, and scripture they’ve learned to Motion. Not only can kids be rewarded for bringing it, but the Bring It! Challenge is a fun way to grow and learn more about God and how He wants us to live.
During Work It Out, kids can earn fun prizes each week. Kids have to FIND 1 Timothy 4:8, in their Bible, RECITE it from memory, and SAY what our series virtue, committment, means!
