Countdown

Welcome / Lego Car Racing

“Welcome to Motion and welcome to Pit Stop, our series all about the exciting sport of Nascar. Right now I want to thank our friends who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

Now Motion, I heard that you’ve all got the need for speed and in your eGroups you made some model cars. I also heard that a few of you wanted to come up here and race these cars! Motion eGroup leaders, choose one person from your group to bring their car to the stage and let’s race!

(have one kid from each eGroup come up on stage and bring their cars to the front)

Ok, every stand behind this line and when I say go, you’re going to push your car as hard as you can and whichever car makes it across the finish line first wins the race. Everyone else out in the crowd, I need you all to cheer as loud as you can. Motion, let me hear you scream!

(wait for response)

Ok, ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! On your mark, get set, go!

(give kids time to race)

Congratulations to __________ and his/her eGroup for winning today’s race! Hand your cars back to your eGroup leaders and I need everyone to remain standing as we sing our first worship song. Check out the screen!”

Video Outro / Dismissal to eGroups

“Motion, I can’t wait to see what happens next week as Ben gets to spend more time with the Pit Crew.

Right now I’m going to send you back to your eGroups where you’re going to learn more about how you can thank God. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can stand up and follow them back to your eGroup.”

(call eGroups leaders’ names and dismiss the kids with their leader)

Game Setup – Photo Finish

“One of the things I love about Nascar is whenever the final lap of the race when the leaders are racing down the lane with the end in sight. They bump each other back and forth as they fight for the top spot. One race that had the closest finish I’ve ever seen was earlier this year at Phoenix Motor Speedway. In fact, check out the screen and I’ll show you!

(watch the video)

Motion, that was one of the wildest finishes I’ve ever seen! In today’s game, I’m expecting to see some photo finishes just like that.

We’re going to choose one kid from each eGroup to move to the front of the room. Those kids will be given a model car that will be raced against all the other kids up front with them. Everyone else will stand at the back of the room behind this checkered tape. When I say ‘Go!’ the kids at the front of the room will race their cars towards the checkered tape at the back of the room. The first car to cross the finish line wins the race and their team earns a point. Then, we’ll choose one more person to come to the front, grab the car and roll it during the next race.

Pay attention, though! At any point I could wave the yellow flag. When that happens, listen for special instructions on how you have to roll the car next round.

eGroup leaders choose one kid to come to the front of the room. Everybody else can move towards the back and let’s get ready to play Photo Finish!”

Bring It! Challenge Setup

“Great job during the game, Motion! Everyone have a seat and let’s clean up the game supplies.

(remove game materials from the seating area)

During Pit Stop, you can play Pit Stop Bingo and earn fuel spots through the Bring It! Challenge by bringing your Bible, saying your memory verse, and even just for showing up! How easy is that? I want you to circle around your eGroup leaders and they’ll give you more instructions on Pit Stop Bingo.”

Dismissal Activity Setup

“Your parents will be arriving soon, but before they do, we’re going to play one final game. You see, Nascar is a sport played at extremely high speeds and whenever you have objects moving that fast for very long times, you’re bound to get some wrecks, mistakes, breakdowns, and all the craziness that can happen when you’re going over 200 miles per hour. In our final game, I’m going to show you a clip of a pretty crazy moment from a Nascar race. When the clip ends, I’m going to ask you questions about the clip you watched. You’ll answer the questions with your eGroup leaders, so make sure you’re circled around them. Check out this first clip!”
