KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
KID CONNECT is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with your eGroup and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

QUEST COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: crayons, coloring page, die
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day.

Extension Activities

    • Use a die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using this color. Roll the die again and switch crayon colors.
    • Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.
  • Have children take turns rolling the die. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, coloring the number of items rolled each turn.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Make sure children’s names are on the coloring pages and set them aside until they are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

KID CONNECT

QUEST ANIMAL MEMORY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: memory cards, die
What you do: Lay the memory cards facedown in the center of the group.
What you say: “We’re going to see who has the best memory while we try to find matches for all of our Quest animal friends!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Each child gets to turn over two memory cards and keep them if the picture matches. If a player turns over two cards which do not match, those cards are turned facedown again. It becomes the next child’s turn whether the pictures do or do not match. Play as time allows or until all matches are found.

Extension Activities

  • Use the die to determine the number of cards each child will turn over on his or her turn.
  • On their turn, each child will roll the die to determine how many cards to turn over.

KID CONNECT

3, 2, 1… BLAST OFF!

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you do: Spread children out around the eGroup area.
What you say: “Today, I want to play a super fun game called ‘3, 2, 1, … Blast Off!’ I will call out a movement like ‘march in place,’ and when I say, ‘Three, two, one, blast off!’ I want you to do it with me like this. (Demonstrate marching in place.) Ready?”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Encourage children to put on their listening ears so they can follow your directions and blast off together!
What you say:

  • “Hug a friend! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Pat your legs! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Touch your nose! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Jump up high! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Sing ‘la, la, la!’ 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Jog in place! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Squat down low! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Touch your toes! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: die, leader card, Quest animal stickers
What you say: “We’re blasting off with exciting stories and fantastic adventures as we discover how God made us, God loves us, and Jesus wants to be our friend forever!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Roll the die and introduce yourself. Read the question from the leader card that corresponds to the color you rolled and share your answer with the eGroup. Encourage each child to roll the die, introduce themselves, and answer the corresponding question.

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)  
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)

What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to blast off into our Bible story and hear something exciting that God wants to teach us today!”

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

BIBLE CONNECT is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, space stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show and read the Bible story on pages 44-47 from the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a space sticker.

What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”

  1. “What did God want Abraham to do?” (move to a new land)
  2. “Who was going to show Abraham how to get there?” (God) 
  3. “Did Abraham go by himself, or did he take all of his family?” (He took all of his family.) 
  4. “Did God tell them exactly where they were going at the very beginning, or did He tell them just where to go each day?” (He told them where to go each day.)
  5. “How did Abraham and his family get to their new home? (They walked and walked.)
  6. “Did they arrive safely at their new home?” (yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “God didn’t tell Abraham exactly where he was going, but God did promise to show him the way. Abraham listened to God’s plan step by step, even though it might have been hard to do. God has plans for us, too! We need to always listen for God’s plan. God loves us very much and has wonderful plans for us!”

BIBLE CONNECT

Choose one of the memory verse activity options to help children learn and practice the Bible verse together.

NOTE: Children cannot receive a memory verse card week one of the series.

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you say: “This month we’re learning about how God made us and loves us and wants to be our friend! Our Bible verse tells us nothing could ever take God’s love away from us.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.

What you say: “I am going to say our new memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Great job! I think you’re ready to say our verse in some silly voices now.”

  • “Say the verse in a loud voice, like you’re trying to yell to outer space!”
  • “Say the verse in a silly space alien voice!”
  • “Say the verse in a quiet voice, like you’re standing on the moon where there’s no sound!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Good job! Our memory verse tells us that not matter what we do, God will ALWAYS love us! ALWAYS! God loves us sooo much!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster!

 

 

BIBLE CONNECT

FOLLOW  THE VERSE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you say: “Let’s pretend there’s a path right here around the edge of our rug. I want you to line up and follow me along the path as we say our memory verse together!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Line the children up and lead them around the edge of the rug, moving in different ways each time you prepare to say the verse.

What you say: “Be sure to stay in line behind me! Everybody march forward ten steps! Count our marching steps with me: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me! (Lead children in saying the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now stand up and follow me around the rug again!”

  • “Everybody hop forward four times! Count our hops with me: 1, 2, 3, 4! Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me!” (Repeat verse)
  • “Everybody take eight tiny baby steps forward! Count our baby steps with me: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8! Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me!” (Repeat verse)
  • “Everybody take three steps forward as slowly as you can! Count our slow steps with me: 1, 2, 3! Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me!” (Repeat verse)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Great job following me and saying the verse! It’s true that NOTHING, absolutely nothing, can separate us from God’s love. He loves you always – no matter what! Isn’t that awesome?”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster!

YOU CONNECT is about the eGroup leader (YOU!) helping children make connections with the main point and their lives. You Connect activities reinforce the main point with fun and engaging activities. BEGIN YOU CONNECT AFTER LARGE GROUP.

PLAY DOUGH PLAN

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: craft mat, play dough, googly eyes
What you do: Give each child a craft mat, a container of play dough, and three googly eyes.
What you say: “Today we’re learning that God has a plan for us! If we’re going to follow God’s plan, we have to listen to Him carefully. Let’s see how well you can listen and follow this plan as we all try to build something with our play dough!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Help children turn in their spots so each child is facing another child’s back. Read the plan slowly and clearly, one step at a time. Be sure to give children time to complete each step before moving on to the next one. Say each step only one time.

What you say: “You’re going to build something special on your craft mat with this play dough, but I’m not going to tell you what it is before we start! You have to listen carefully as I read the plan. I’m only going to read each step of the plan one time! Before we start, I need each of you to turn this way (direct all children to turn in the same direction) so you’re facing your neighbor’s back. That way you can only see what you’re making; no peeking at your neighbors! Everyone take your play dough out of the tub and lay it on your craft mat. I’m going to read the plan now; be sure to listen carefully to each step!

Step one: Split your play dough into two pieces.

Step two: Roll the first piece into a ball.

Step three: Smoosh the ball with your hand to flatten it a little bit. It should be about as thick as your finger.

Step four: Tear the other piece of your play dough into four smaller pieces. (Help children count four pieces.)

Step five: Roll each of those four small pieces into a long, skinny noodle.

Step six: Stick each noodle on a side of the big ball you smooshed.

Step seven: Stick three googly eyes on the big part.”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Lay your play dough creation on your craft mat. Now, everyone turn back to face the middle. Does anyone know what you made? (Pause for children to respond.) You all made silly space aliens! They might look a little different than each other, but if you followed the plan, all of your aliens have three eyes and four arms. Just like you listened to my plan for your alien, we need to listen to God’s plan for our lives. We might not always know where His plan is taking us, but we can always trust that His plans for us are good!”
What you do: Help children clean up the materials.

YOU CONNECT

JOURNAL / COLLECTIBLE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: journal, pen, collectible poster, main point card, glue, Sharpie marker
What you say: “Today we learned God has a plan for us! Now it’s time to write in our eGroup prayer journal and pray together.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Take out your journal and pen. Write each child’s name and what they say beside their names. Remember to print the words they say so the children can recognize their names and the letters. Pray with the group.

What you say: “Okay, who’s ready to write in our prayer journal? (Pause.) Good! Because it’s time! Today I want you to think about what you want to do when you’re all grown up like your mommy and daddy. I’ll write down what you say beside your name. Then, when I pray, I’ll use our list to thank God for having a plan for us and ask Him to help us trust His plan. (Record what each child says.) These are some great ideas! Thanks for helping me make our list. 

Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You for the Bible and how it helps us know You better. Thank You for loving us and having a plan for us. (Name of child) wants to (read what you wrote for that child) when he grows up. (Repeat for each child.) All of these are amazing ideas, but we know Your plan will always be best. Help each of us to trust Your plan for us and do what You say. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk.

What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your collectible poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize!

Today’s main point card says, ‘God has a plan for me!’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your collectible poster at home.

VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT RECEIVED A COLLECTIBLE POSTER: Give the child a collectible poster and glue the main point card on their poster. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned God has a special plan for each of us!”
What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

YOU CONNECT

CONNECT THE DOTS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: activity sheet, crayons
What you do: Give each child an activity sheet and allow each child to choose a crayon.
What you say: “We also have to follow a plan when we connect the dots if we want the picture to come out right.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Read the instructions in order and encourage children to draw lines from one space object to the next. As you read each instruction, check and make sure each child has identified the next space object correctly before they draw the line.

What you say: “We’re going to create this picture together by following a plan!

  • Everyone put your finger on the red star. That’s our starting point!
  • Now put your finger on the green planet. (Pause to make sure all children have found it.) Connect the red star to the green planet.
  • Put your finger on the orange moon. (Pause to make sure all children have found it.) Connect the green planet to the orange moon.
  • Put your finger on the blue sun. (Pause to make sure all children have found it.) Connect the orange moon to the blue sun.
  • Put your finger on the yellow star. (Pause to make sure all children have found it.) Connect the blue sun to the yellow star.
  • Put your finger on the purple planet. (Pause to make sure all children have found it.) Connect the yellow star to the purple planet.
  • Put your finger on the black moon. (Pause to make sure all children have found it.) Connect the purple planet to the black moon.
  • Put your finger on the red star. That was our starting point, and now we’ll end there, too! (Pause to make sure all children have found it.) Connect the black moon to the red star.”

What you say: “When we followed the plan and connected the space objects, what picture did we create? (Pause for children to respond.) We made a rocket ship! Great job following the plan!”
