KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

COLORING ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
5-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Quest coloring page, crayons, die

PLACE crayons in the center of the circle and GIVE each child a Quest coloring page. INSTRUCT children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did that day.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

  • Use a die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using the color. Roll the die again and switch crayon colors.
  • Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.

WHO TO FOLLOW

SUGGESTED TIME
8-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
candy game pieces, Quest animal stickers

INTRODUCE the series using the series overview:

God gave Jesus a special job to do while He was on Earth. God told Jesus to tell everyone God loves them! Jesus chose twelve special friends and asked them to follow Him and help Him share God’s love. Jesus wants us to follow Him, too!

LAY the memory cards facedown in the center of the group. FLIP OVER two memory cards and introduce yourself. READ aloud this question, “Would you rather follow [insert animal name from one memory card] or  [insert animal name from the other memory card].” and SHARE your answer with the eGroup. TURN over the cards after sharing.

Each child will CHOOSE two memory cards and SHARE his or her name. ASK each child this question: “Would you rather follow [insert animal name from one memory card] or  [insert animal name from the other memory card]. and have the child answer the question. CONTINUE for each child.

AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

SAY: We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

SAY: If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

TELL the children we can find true stories about Jesus in God’s book, the Bible!

SHOW and READ the Bible Story on page 306-309 from the God’s Story For Me Bible.

ASK the following questions to review the Bible story. Each time a child answers a question, GIVE the child an egg sticker.

  1. Where was Jesus walking? (by the Sea of Galilee)
  2. What did Jesus see the men doing in the water? (fishing)
  3. What did Jesus ask the men to do? (follow Him)
  4. How many men did Jesus ask to follow Him? (12)
  5. What was their new job going to be? (to tell everyone God loves them)

SAY: Jesus wanted everyone to know about God’s love, but He needed people to help Him. Jesus’ new friends chose to follow Him so they could help Him tell people God loves them. Jesus wants us to be His friend and help Him tell people about God’s love, too! Say our main point with me.

VERSE VOICES
MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
die, memory verse egg

SAY: This month we have been learning that following Jesus and living like Him is the best choice we can make! Our Bible verse reminds us to always follow Jesus. It says:

‘Come (spread arms wide)
and follow me,’ (march in place)
Jesus said. (cup hands around mouth)
Matthew 4:19 (open hands like a book)

PRACTICE the memory verse together a few times.

ASK a child to roll the die. REPEAT the verse together in the voice from the chart that matches the color on the die.

EXPLAIN to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a Memory Verse Egg for their Follow Me poster! ALLOW children an opportunity to RECITE the verse by themselves. GIVE any child who recites the verse by themselves an egg.

HEAD TO FREE PLAY, THEN LARGE GROUP.

YOU CONNECT

WHAT IS YOU CONNECT?

APPLICATION ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10 MINUTES

game cards

SAY: It’s so important for us to tell everyone about God! Maybe some of you have never told anyone before and you aren’t sure how to tell people. Let’s practice telling people about God together so you’ll feel ready and excited to tell them on your own when you leave today!

ASK each child to find a partner. If you have an odd number of children in your group, you can PARTNER with the last child yourself. HOLD OUT the game cards and ASK a child to choose a game card and give it to you. READ the instructions on the back of the game card. ENCOURAGE all children to participate in acting out telling others about God.

SAY: You all did a great job practicing how to tell people that Jesus loves everyone! I know that you will all be looking out for people that you can tell as soon as you leave today. Say our main point together.

I can follow Jesus (march in place)

FOLLOW THE LEADER
GAME ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES:
Follow the leader cards, leader sheet

SAY: Jesus is the greatest leader who has ever lived, so He’s the best person for us to follow! Let’s practice being great followers together. Do you think you can follow the leader?

EXPLAIN children will choose a card with a body part. You will WHISPER a movement to do with that body part. The child will say, “Follow me!” to the rest of the group and perform the movement. ENCOURAGE the group to follow the leader and complete the same movement.

LAY OUT the cards face up and ask a child to choose one. USE the leader sheet to WHISPER movements for children to lead. CONTINUE until all cards have been drawn.

If time allows, PLAY again but let children choose their own movement to lead the group in using the body part on the card.

SAY: You all did a great job following the leader! Just like you followed the leader in the game, you can follow Jesus, too! Say our main point with me.

COLLECTIBLE ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
8-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Follow Me poster, main point eggs, glue, Sharpie marker

HOLD UP the Follow Me poster and SAY: Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you can collect main point eggs to add to your poster. These eggs will help remind us Jesus loves everyone! Collect six eggs and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize!

To receive today’s main point egg, children will have to Remember, Think, and Follow! SAY: Let’s REMEMBER … what were the men doing before they met Jesus? (fishing) Let’s THINK … Jesus wanted the men to follow Him and do what? (tell others about God) Telling others about God is a very important job, and Jesus wanted the men to follow Him and help Him tell people. We can be like Jesus by telling people we know about God! If you can FOLLOW the example set in our Bible story, let’s say our main point together:

I can follow Jesus (march in place)
by telling others (cup hands around mouth)
about God! (point up)

GIVE each child a main point egg.

SAY: Take your egg home and glue it to your Follow Me poster. Make sure to look at your poster every day to remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned one way we can follow Jesus is by telling people about God! Let’s say our main point together:

I can follow Jesus (march in place)
by telling others (cup hands around mouth)
