Courage: Taking the first step, even when something is difficult.
Series Memory Verse: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
Main Point: I can show courage when I’m doing something for the first time.
Bible Story:
Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream  Daniel 2

Every day we have a choice: to stand up and be courageous or to step back into the crowd. But this choice is not always as easy as we might think. The strength to take the first step toward doing the right thing can be difficult to find.

In this series, we’ll join Alex in the land of Aethasia, a place where courage is born and heroes are made. We’ll study the Bible hero, Daniel, who exemplifies what it means to show courage in the face of adversity, and we’ll help kids see their own opportunities to be courageous every day.

This week read Daniel 2 with your family. Daniel had never been asked to interpret a dream before, much less guess what someone else had dreamed! But when Daniel begged God for help, God showed Daniel exactly what the king and dreamed and helped Daniel understand what it meant. It still would’ve been hard to believe he could do something crazy that he’d never tried before, especially knowing his life was on the line, but God gave Daniel the courage to do it anyway.

It’s never easy to do something new for the first time. Not knowing if you’ll like it and wondering what you’ll do if you don’t like it can be scary! But God can help us show courage when we do something for the first time. Courage is all about taking the first step, so when you choose to try something for the first time, you’re already showing courage!
