Courage: Taking the first step, even when something is difficult.
Series Memory Verse: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
Main Point: I can show courage because I know God is with me.
Bible Story:
Daniel in the Den of Lions
  Daniel 6

Every day we have a choice: to stand up and be courageous or to step back into the crowd. But this choice is not always as easy as we might think. The strength to take the first step toward doing the right thing can be difficult to find.

In this series, we’ll join Alex in the land of Aethasia, a place where courage is born and heroes are made. We’ll study the Bible hero, Daniel, who exemplifies what it means to show courage in the face of adversity, and we’ll help kids see their own opportunities to be courageous every day.

This week read Daniel 6 with your family. It would be unbelievably scary to be thrown in a pit full of hungry lions! A lot of people probably would have chosen to give in and pray to the king. But Daniel knew God was with him. He knew God would take care of him and honor him for making the right choice, and God did! God closed the lions’ mouths, and Daniel was safe. Daniel showed courage because he knew God was with him, no matter where he was or what he needed.

It isn’t always easy to trust God is with you when you can’t see Him or feel Him. But we know we can trust God’s Word, and God promises He will always be with us. So when you’re in a situation that seems scary or overwhelming, you can show courage because you know God is with you!
