Series Memory Verse: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
Main Point: I can show courage when I’m in a new place.
Bible Story: Daniel Training in Babylon ● Daniel 1
Every day we have a choice: to stand up and be courageous or to step back into the crowd. But this choice is not always as easy as we might think. The strength to take the first step toward doing the right thing can be difficult to find.
In this series, we’ll join Alex in the land of Aethasia, a place where courage is born and heroes are made. We’ll study the Bible hero, Daniel, who exemplifies what it means to show courage in the face of adversity, and we’ll help kids see their own opportunities to be courageous every day.
This week read Daniel 1 with your family. Daniel was in a new place with new people, and it would’ve been easier for him and his friends to eat like everyone else rather than disagree and stand out. But Daniel had the courage to do things God’s way instead of doing what was easy just to fit in. God rewarded Daniel’s courage by helping him and his friends become healthier and wiser than any of the other young men they trained with.
Just like Daniel, you can show courage in new places, too! Being in a new place or any unfamiliar situation can be scary. The easy thing to do would be to avoid new places altogether, or to do whatever it takes to blend in if you have to go somewhere new. But these cards gave us some great ideas how we can take the first step to show courage. Even when it’s difficult, we can take the first step to show courage we’re in a new place!
