WHAT YOU NEED: Bible (Use a children’s Bible or download the Bible App for Kids and watch “The First Christmas Gift.”) 

WHAT YOU SAY: “I love reading the Bible and spending time with Jesus. Let’s read our Bible story together right now!”

WHAT YOU DO: Read “Jesus Is Born” — Luke 2:1-7 from the Bible.

Complete the activities below with your toddler to learn that Jesus is God’s Son.

December 6:

Song Activity: Jesus Is

WHAT YOU DO: Lead your toddler in singing the following to the tune of “Jingle Bells.”

Jesus is,
Jesus is,
Jesus is God’s Son.
God loves me and you so much,
He gave His Son to us.

WHAT YOU SAY: “You did a wonderful job singing! Who is God’s Son?” Encourage your toddler to say, “Jesus is God’s Son!”

 

December 13:

Memory Verse Activity: Memory Freeze

WHAT YOU NEED: Safari Worship Playlist 

WHAT YOU SAY: “Our memory verse helps us remember that God gave us His Son, Jesus, to be our friend forever!”

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Lead your toddler in saying Isaiah 9:6 three times. Say the verse, line by line, encouraging your toddler to repeat and complete the actions after you. 

“God (point up)
has given (extend arms forward)
a son (pretend to rock a baby)
to us.” (thumbs to chest)
Isaiah 9:6, NCV (open hands like a book)

  • Have a dance party to help your toddler remember the memory verse.
  • After about 30 seconds, pause the music and encourage your toddler to stand very still or FREEZE.
  • Lead your toddler in saying the memory verse with the actions. Then turn the music on again and repeat the activity every 30 seconds.

 

December 20:

Song Activity: God Gave Us

WHAT YOU DO: Lead your toddler in singing the following to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell.” 

God gave us His Son,
God gave us His Son,
God loves me and you so much,
He gave His Son to us.

WHAT YOU SAY: “You did a wonderful job singing! Who is God’s Son?” Encourage your toddler to say, “Jesus is God’s Son!”

 

December 23:

Game Activity: Christmas Story Review

WHAT YOU SAY: “Let’s play a fun game to help us remember that Jesus is God’s Son!”

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Read each prompt below and encourage your toddler to respond.
    • “Let me see you pretend to fly like an angel! (Pause.) Great job! An angel visited Mary and told her she was going to have a special baby and He would be God’s Son!”
    • “Let’s walk around the room, like we’re going on a LONG trip!” (Pause.) Great job! Before the baby was born, Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem on a donkey!
    • “Let me hear you make some animal noises! (Pause.) Great job! When Mary and Joseph arrived, all the rooms were full, so they had to sleep in the stable, which is where animals sleep!”
    • “Let me see you pretend you’re rocking a baby! (Pause.) Great job! God’s Son, Jesus, was born that night. His birth is why we celebrate Christmas!”

WHAT YOU SAY: “Great job! Remember, Jesus is God’s Son, and His birth is the reason we celebrate Christmas! Who is God’s Son?” Encourage your toddler to say, “Jesus is God’s Son.”

 

December 27:

Craft Activity: Nativity Scene

WHAT YOU NEED: Activity pages, crayons or markers, glue stick

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Print off the activity page and cut out the pictures of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. Place some crayons or markers on the table.
  • Read each prompt below and encourage your toddler to respond.
    • “I spy… Mary! When you find her, color her picture and glue her picture to your page! An angel visited Mary and told her she was going to have a special baby and He would be God’s Son!”
    • “I spy… Joseph! When you find him, color his picture and glue it to your page! Before the baby was born, Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem on a donkey!”
    • “I spy… animals in the stable! When you find them, color them on your page! When Mary and Joseph arrived, all the rooms were full, so they had to sleep in the stable, which is where animals sleep!”
    • “I spy… baby Jesus! When you find Him, color His picture and glue it to your page! God’s Son, Jesus, was born that night. His birth is why we celebrate Christmas!”
    • “I spy… a star in the sky! When you find it, color it on your page! God put a special star in the sky so people could find baby Jesus and celebrate His birth!”
