WHAT YOU NEED: Bible (Use a children’s Bible if you have one.)

WHAT YOU SAY: “I love reading the Bible and spending time with Jesus. Let’s read our Bible story together right now!”

WHAT YOU DO: Read “Jesus Is Born — Luke 2:1-7.” (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)

Complete the activities below with your toddler to help them learn we can thank God for everything.

December 5:

Song Activity: God Gave Us His Son

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Lead your toddler in singing the following to the tune of “Jingle Bells.”  

    God gave us,
    God gave us,
    God gave us His Son.
    God loves me and you so much,
    He gave His Son to us.
  • Continue the activity for as long as your toddler is interested.
  • After the activity, say, “Great job! Who gave us Jesus?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God gave us Jesus!”

 

December 12:

Memory Verse Activity: Memory Freeze

WHAT YOU NEED: Safari Worship Playlist 

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Say, “Our memory verse helps us remember God gave us His Son, Jesus!”
  • Lead your toddler in practicing Isaiah 9:6b three times. Say the verse, line by line, encouraging your toddler to repeat and complete the actions after you.

          “God (point up)
          has given (move hands in front of you)
          a son (pretend to rock a baby)
          to us. ” (thumbs to chest)
          Isaiah 9:6b (open hands like a book)

  • Then have a dance party to help your toddler remember the memory verse.
  • After about 30 seconds, pause the music and encourage your toddler to stand very still or FREEZE.
  • Lead your toddler in saying the memory verse with the actions. Then turn the music on again and repeat the activity every 30 seconds.

 

December 19:

Response Activity: Act It Out

WHAT YOU DO:

  • “God loves us so much, He gave us His Son, Jesus. Let’s play a fun game to help us remember the night Jesus was born.”
  • Read each prompt and encourage your toddler to respond. 
    • “God sent an angel to tell Mary He was going to give us Jesus. Pretend to fly like you’re an angel!”(Pause.)
    • “Mary and Joseph went to a town called Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Let’s walk around the room and pretend to travel like Mary and Joseph!” (Pause.)
    • “Jesus was born in a stable, which is where animals live! Pretend to be an animal and walk around the room. You can pretend to be a horse, dog, cow, pig, or any animal you’d like!” (Pause.)
    • “Baby Jesus was laid in a manger, which is a box animals eat from. Pretend to rock a baby!” (Pause.)
    • “God loves us so much, He gave us His Son. If you’re so glad God gave us Jesus, clap your hands!” (Pause.)
  • After the activity, say, “Who gave us Jesus?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God gave us Jesus!”

 

December 24 — Christmas Eve:

Parade Activity: Happy Birthday, Jesus!

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Say, “We celebrate Jesus’ birthday at Christmas. Today, we’re going to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Jesus and have a parade to celebrate!”
  • Lead your toddler in a parade around the room while singing “Happy Birthday.”
  • Switch it up and encourage them to do the following:
    • Hop
    • Crawl
    • Twirl
    • Take big steps
    • Take little steps
  • Occasionally stop to ask your toddler, “Who gave us Jesus?” and encourage them to say, “God gave us Jesus!”

 

December 26:

Song Activity: J-E-S-U-S

  • Lead your toddler in singing the following to the tune of “Bingo.”God gave His only Son to us,
    And Jesus is His name-o.
    J-E-S-U-S, J-E-S-U-S, J-E-S-U-S,
    And Jesus is His name-o.
  • Continue the activity for as long as your toddler is interested.
  • After the activity, say, “Great job! Who gave us Jesus?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God gave us Jesus!”
