Bible Story Activity

WHAT YOU NEED: Bible (Use a children’s Bible if you have one.)

WHAT YOU SAY: “I love reading the Bible and spending time with Jesus. Let’s read our Bible story together right now!”

WHAT YOU DO: Read “King David Wrote the Psalms — Psalm 119:11” or CLICK HERE or a Bible story card you can use.

 

TODDLER ACTIVITIES

Complete the activities below with your toddler to help them learn we can thank God for everything.

January 2:

Game Activity: Find the Bible

WHAT YOU NEED: Bible

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Place the Bible somewhere in the room where your toddler can easily see it when they look for it. 
  • Say, “God gave us His Word, the Bible. (Hold up the Bible.) When we learn God’s Word, we are hiding it in our hearts and it will help us every day. The Bible is hidden somewhere in this room, and I want you to try to find it.”
  • Help your toddler look for the Bible, and encourage them to point to it when they see it.
  • After they’ve found it, hide it again and continue playing for as long as time allows.
  • After the activity, say, “Great job finding the Bible! Just like I hid the Bible in our game today, we can hide God’s Word in our hearts when we read and learn what it says.” Ask, “Who gave us the Bible?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God gave us the Bible!”

 

January 9:

Memory Verse Activity: Memory Freeze

WHAT YOU NEED: Safari Worship Playlist 

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Say, “Our memory verse helps us remember God gave us the Bible!”
  • Lead your toddler in practicing Psalm 119:11a three times. Say the verse, line by line, encouraging your toddler to repeat and complete the actions after you. 

          “I have hidden (point to self)
           your word (cup hands around your mouth)
          in your heart.” (put your hands over your heart)
          Psalm 119:11a (open hands like a book)

  • Then have a dance party to help your toddler remember the memory verse.
  • After about 30 seconds, pause the music and encourage your toddler to stand very still or FREEZE.
  • Lead them in saying the memory verse with the actions. Then turn the music on again and repeat the activity every 30 seconds.

 

January 16:

Response Activity: The Bible Says

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Say, “God gave us the Bible so that we would know who He is and how He wants us to live. I’m going to say ‘The Bible Says’ and give you instructions to follow. Are you ready?”
  • Read each prompt and encourage your toddler to respond. Continue as long as time allows. 
    • “The Bible says to love others! Give yourself a hug!” (Lead your toddler in giving themselves a hug.)
    • “The Bible says to give thanks. Clap your hands!” (Lead your toddler in clapping their hands.)
    • “The Bible says to tell the truth. Give two thumbs-up!” (Lead your toddler in putting two thumbs-up.)
    • “The Bible says to be kind. Wave, like you’re pretending to say hi to a friend!” (Lead your toddler in putting two thumbs-up.)
    • “The Bible says to share what we have. Point to a toy you can share with someone!” (Lead your toddler in pointing to a toy in the room.)
  • After the activity say, “Great job! God gave us the Bible. When we read it, we learn how He wants us to live.” Ask, “Who gave us the Bible?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God gave us the Bible!”

 

December 24 — Christmas Eve:

Parade Activity: Happy Birthday, Jesus!

WHAT YOU DO:

  • Say, “We celebrate Jesus’ birthday at Christmas. Today, we’re going to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Jesus and have a parade to celebrate!”
  • Lead your toddler in a parade around the room while singing “Happy Birthday.”
  • Switch it up and encourage them to do the following:
    • Hop
    • Crawl
    • Twirl
    • Take big steps
    • Take little steps
  • Occasionally stop to ask your toddler, “Who gave us Jesus?” and encourage them to say, “God gave us Jesus!”

 

January 23:

Parade Activity: God Gave Us The Bible

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Lead your toddler in singing to the tune of “The Farmer In The Dell”.

          God gave us the Bible.
          God gave us the Bible.
          It teaches us who God is.
          God gave us the Bible.

          God gave us the Bible.
          God gave us the Bible.
          It teaches us how to live.
          God gave us the Bible.

  • After the activity say, “Wonderful job singing! Who gave us the Bible?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God gave us the Bible!”

January 30:

Parade Activity: I Spy

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Say “I spy… ” and read each prompt below. Encourage your toddler to respond by finding it in the room. Then, continue to read the prompt.
    • “I spy… a toy! Everyone point to a toy in the room. (Pause.) The Bible tells us be kind to others. We can be kind to our friends when we play with them!”
    • “I spy… some clothes! Let me see you point to a piece of clothing in the room. (Pause.) The Bible teaches us to share our things. We can share things like our clothes when they don’t fit us anymore, our toys, and even our snacks!”
    • “I spy… a Bible! Point to the Bible in the room. (Pause.) The Bible tells us to spend time with God by learning what it says and praying to Him!”
    • “I spy… a table we might eat meals on! Point to a table. (Pause.) The Bible tells us to be thankful for what we have, including yummy food we get to eat!”
  • After the activity say, “Great job! God gave us His Word to help us learn how we can live for Him. Who gave us the Bible?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God gave us the Bible!”
