Bible Story: The Good Samaritan ● Luke 10:25-37

Bible Story Activity

WHAT YOU NEED: Bible (Use a children’s Bible if you have one.) 

WHAT YOU SAY: “I love reading the Bible and spending time with Jesus. Let’s read our Bible story together right now!”

WHAT YOU DO: Read “The Good Samaritan” — Luke 10:25-37 from the Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.) 

TODDLER ACTIVITIES

Complete the activities below with your toddler to help them learn they can help others.

July 2:

Song Activity:

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Lead your toddler in singing to the tune of “London Bridge is Falling Down.”
    I can look for ways to help,
    ways to help, ways to help.
    I can look for ways to help,
    and show God’s love.
  • Continue the activity for as long as your toddler is engaged.
  • Say, “Wonderful job singing! Who can help others?” Encourage your toddler to say, “I can help others!”

July 9:

Memory Verse Activity: 

WHAT YOU NEED: Safari Playlist

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Before the activity, practice saying the memory verse and doing the motions a few times.
  • Play the Safari playlist and have a dance party to help your toddler remember the memory verse.
  • After about 30 seconds, pause the music and encourage your toddler to stand very still or FREEZE.
  • Lead them in saying the memory verse with these motions:

    “Serve
    (move hands outward)
    one another (point around)
    in love.” (hug self)
    Galatians 5:13b (open hands like a book)
  • After saying the verse, turn the music on again and repeat the activity every 30 seconds for as long as your toddler is interested.
  • After the activity, say, “Great job! Who can help others?” Encourage your toddler to say, “I can help others!”


July 16:

Song Activity:

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Lead your toddler in singing to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb.”

    I will help and serve my friends,
    serve my friends, serve my friends.
    I will show God’s love to them,
    in everything I do.
  • Continue the activity for as long as your toddler is engaged.
  • Say, “Wonderful job singing! Who can help others?” Encourage your toddler to say, “I can help others!”

July 23:

Response Activity:

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Say, “There are many ways we can help others, like serving during LOVE Week. It’s a special time in our church when we show others God’s love by helping them for one whole week. Let’s learn some ways we can help during LOVE Week!”
  • Read each prompt below and encourage your toddler to respond. 
    • “You can help others by cleaning up trash. Pretend to pick up trash off the ground if you can help others!”
    • “You can comfort those who are sick by making them cards. Pretend to color if you can help others!”
    • “You can help clean at a school. Pretend to sweep if you can help others!”
    • “You can help sort clothes being donated to families in need. Pat your head if you can help others!”
  • Say, “Great job! Who can help others?” Encourage your toddler to say, “I can help others!”

July 30:

Game Activity:

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Say, “Let’s learn about some people we can help! We’re going to play a game like Follow The Leader. I’m going to do a movement and I want you to follow me!”
  • Read each prompt below and encourage your toddler to respond. 
    • “Follow me and pretend to cook! (Demonstrate.) You can help your family if someone is cooking a meal by themselves.”
    • “Follow me and walk around the room! (Demonstrate.) You can help your neighbors by picking up trash when you go for walks around your neighborhood.”
    • “Follow me and give yourself a BIG hug! (Demonstrate.) You can help your friends when they’re sick or sad by making them a card or bringing them a gift to help them feel better.”
    • “Follow me and point to a toy in the room! (Demonstrate.) You can help your leaders at church or teachers at daycare by helping put the toys away when it’s time to clean up.”
  • Say, “Great job! Who can help others?” Encourage your toddler to say, “I can help others!”
