You can choose joy when life gets hard ● Acts 16:16-40
As a family, discuss a few questions together after your child watches this week’s Motion episode.
Question #1: We’re learning we can choose joy, but joy and happiness aren’t the same thing. What are some things that make you feel happy?
Question #2: Read Acts 16:22-25. We feel happy when good things happen to us, but we can choose joy when life gets hard. How did Paul and Silas show joy in this passage? What are some other ways we can choose joy even when we aren’t happy about the circumstances we’re in?
Question #3: This month, we’re learning that being resilient means getting back up when something gets you down. How can choosing joy help you be more resilient?
Question #4: What are two or three things that can help you remember to choose joy no matter what kind of day you’re having or what’s going on? (e.g., reading a favorite Bible verse in the morning, listening to a worship song, counting your blessings, etc.)
Read the Bible — by yourself and with others. Try different translations. Set aside a special, quiet time to dive in.
Ask questions to help you understand — who’s the author, who are they writing to, and how does this part of the Bible point you toward Jesus?
Yak — share about what you’re learning and what God is showing you, especially with friends who don’t have a relationship with Jesus or want to learn more about Him.
This week:
Read: Psalm 92:4 — Write down what the verse means to you!
Ask: This verse talks about singing for joy. What are some other ways you can show joy this week?
Yak: Tell someone what you read. What are a couple things they do to choose joy?
