Bible story: Good Samaritan ● Luke 10:25-37
As a family, watch this week’s video and then discuss a few questions together.
- Who was our Bible story about? (Jesus, the Samaritan man, the hurt man)
- Who told the story about the Samaritan man? (Jesus)
- What happened in the Bible story? (Jesus told a story about a man who had been hurt and needed help. A priest and a helper from the temple walked by, but they didn’t stop to help. When a Samaritan man walked by, he stopped to help the hurt man.)
- Where did the Samaritan man take the hurt man? (an inn)
- The Samaritan man helped the hurt man! Did God make you to help others too? (yes)
Family Activity: Thank You Cards
WHAT YOU NEED: paper, crayons or markers, stickers or other craft materials
WHAT YOU DO:
- Before the Activity: Talk to your child about the community helpers (nurses, firefighters, mail carriers, etc.) that help us every day. Encourage them to color or decorate a thank you card to some community helpers in your neighborhood.
- After the Activity: Talk about how God made us to help others, just like community helpers. Then deliver them to each person your child made one for.
WHAT YOU SAY:
- Before the Activity: “Can you name some community helpers? A community helper is someone who helps us each day, like a nurse. What does a nurse do? (Pause.) Yes, nurses work in doctor’s offices or hospitals, and they take care of us when we’re sick. There are so many people who help us.”
- During the Activity: “Let’s thank the helpers by making some thank you cards for them! You can draw pictures, add stickers, or whatever you choose.I know these will make our community helpers feel loved and appreciated.”
- After the Activity: “I’m so glad for the people who help us like nurses, firefighters, and mail carriers! But they aren’t the only ones who can help. God made me and you to help others too! Who made you to help others?” (God made me to help others.)
