Bible story: Jesus is Gentle ● Mark 5:25-34

 

 

As a family, watch this week’s video and then discuss a few questions together. 

  • Who was today’s Bible story about? (Jesus, the woman)
  • What happened in the Bible story? (A woman had been sick for a long time and she pushed through a large crowd of people to get to Jesus. When the woman touched Jesus’ clothes, she was healed!)
  • When Jesus asked who touched His clothes, was the woman in trouble? (no)
  • Did Jesus show kindness to the woman or did He walk away? (Jesus showed kindness to the woman.)
  • Can you love like Jesus by being kind too? (yes)

Family Activity: Let’s Be Gentle

WHAT YOU NEED: cotton ball, spoon

WHAT YOU DO: 

  • Before the Activity: Fill one bin with cotton balls and set it on the floor on one side of the room. Place an empty bin about ten feet away from the bin of cotton balls. Give your child a spoon and have them stand next to the bin of cotton balls.
  • During the Activity: Encourage your child to place one cotton ball on their spoon and walk slowly to drop their cotton ball into the empty bin. If the child drops the cotton ball, they can put it back on their spoon and keep going. Once they’ve dropped their cotton ball into the bin, encourage them to head back to the bin of cotton balls and repeat as desired.

WHAT YOU SAY: 

  • During the Activity: “Here’s what we’ll do. I want you to pick up a cotton ball and place it on the spoon like this. (Demonstrate.) Then GENTLY walk to the empty bin and drop your cotton ball into the bin. (Demonstrate.) If you drop the cotton ball as you’re walking, it’s okay! Just put the cotton ball back on the spoon and keep going. Once you drop the cotton ball, come back to the line so the next friend can have a turn. Ready? Pick up a cotton ball and gently walk. (Pause.) Great job! When you walk gently, the cotton ball stays on your spoon better.”
  • After the Activity: “That was SO fun! I saw you being careful and gentle. Great job! In today’s Bible story, we learned about the time Jesus showed love to someone by being gentle. We can love like Jesus by being kind and gentle to others too. Who can love like Jesus?” (I can love like Jesus.)
