Bible story: Rahab and the Spies ● Joshua 2:1-24; 6:24-25

As a family, read “Rahab and the Spies” (Joshua 2:1-24; 6:24-25) from a children’s Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.) 

After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:

• “What happened in the Bible story? (Two spies were sent into the city of Jericho. A woman named Rahab lived there and she helped them. When the spies left, they told Rahab to put a red rope outside her window so Rahab and her family would be safe.) 
• “Rahab knew God was powerful, and she was brave enough to help the spies. Can God help you be brave too because He is powerful?” (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation: 

• Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! I wonder what brave things God will help us do today.”
• Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “God, You made everything! You made stars and volcanoes, oceans and animals, and all the people. That’s powerful! And when I remember how powerful You are and that You are with me, I can be brave!”
• Drive Time: While on the go, look for powerful things like bulldozers, airplanes, big trucks, etc. Tell your child that nothing is more powerful than God and we can be brave because God is powerful!
• Bath Time: Add a toy person, bubbles, and a few washcloths to bath time. Tell your child to close their eyes or look away while you hide the toy in the bubbles, under a washcloth, or behind a shampoo bottle. Each time your child finds the toy, say, “God can help me be brave!” Talk about how Rahab was brave and hid the spies because she knew God is powerful.
