Main point: Jesus loves us even when we do something wrong.
Bible story: Zacchaeus ● Luke 19:1-10
As a family, read “Zacchaeus” (Luke 19:1-10) from a children’s Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (Zacchaeus climbed a tree to see Jesus. Jesus told him to come down and went to Zacchaeus’ house. Zacchaeus had made wrong choices, but Jesus showed him love.)
- Does Jesus love you even when you do something wrong? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! I’m going to give you a BIG Jesus-size hug because Jesus loves everyone no matter what. That’s some really BIG love!”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “God, I know what it feels like to do something wrong. It is not a good feeling. Thank You for sending Jesus to show us that You will always love us no matter what. That is a VERY good feeling!”
- Bath Time: Play the song “Zacchaeus Was A Wee Little Man” during bath time. Repeat the song and sing along. You can even do the hand motions! Talk about how Jesus loved Zacchaeus even though he had done wrong things because Jesus loves everyone!
- Drive Time: While on the go, take turns naming things we can climb. (For example, a ladder, stool, rope, tree, etc.) Talk about how Zacchaeus climbed a tree so he could see Jesus. Jesus was kind and loving to Zaccaheus, because Jesus wanted to be his friend forever.
