Main point: Jesus says to love like Him.
Bible story: The Early Church ● Acts 2:42-27, John 15:12, Hebrews 10:24
As a family, read “The Early Church” (Acts 2:42-27, John 15:12, Hebrews 10:24) from a children’s Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (Jesus told the people who followed Him to love others the way He does. They became the first church and loved like Jesus by sharing with others, giving others food, and singing and praising God together.)
- Can you do what Jesus says and love like He does? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Rise and shine, (child’s name)! The sun is shining! Your bedroom lights are shining. That means it’s time for you and me to love like Jesus and SHINE!”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “God, Jesus was always serving others, helping others, giving to others, putting others first, praying for others, eating with others, teaching others… no one loves bigger or better than Jesus! Now Jesus says for us to go and love like Him. We want to do what Jesus says, God, so please help us love like Jesus.”
- Bath Time: During bath time, sing the following words to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”: “Love, love, love my friends. I can love my friends. I can do what Jesus says and love people like Him.” Repeat for as long as your child is engaged.
- Drive Time: While on the go, look for people who are letting their light shine. Are they saying kind words? Sharing? Helping? All of these are ways we can love like Jesus and let our light shine.
