Main point: I can have joy because God helps me.
Bible story: Feast of Booths ● Deuteronomy 16:13-17
As a family, read “Feast of Booths” (Deuteronomy 16:13-17) from a children’s Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (The Israelites grew lots of food, but it was God who helped them by providing the sun and rain to help the food grow. The Israelites got everyone together and celebrated for seven days!)
- The Israelites had joy and celebrated because God helped them. Can you have joy all the time, because God helps you too? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
-
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say: “Good morning, (child’s name)! It’s time to wake up and eat breakfast! I have joy when I think about how God helps us have food — like yummy (breakfast item)!”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray: “God, thank You for all of the ways You help (child’s name) and me. You help us by giving us the sun to keep us warm, rain to make food grow, and people to love us. You help us in so many ways, and Your help gives us joy! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
- Bath Time: Add toy food items and toy garden tools to bath time. As your child plays, talk about how a long time ago, God’s people had a festival after all of the food in their gardens finished growing. They had joy, because God helped their food grow!
- Drive Time: While on the go, look for the sun, water and food. After you find them, talk about how God’s people had a festival to celebrate God helping them grow food. God helped them by making the sun shine, the rain fall, and the food grow!
