Main point: Jesus is a light for everyone.
Bible story: The Man at the Pool ● John 5:1-9
As a family, read “The Man at the Pool” (John 5:1-9) from the Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (Jesus saw a man who had been lying on a mat by a pool of water for a very long time because he could not walk. Jesus healed the man because Jesus loves everyone, and Jesus came to be a light for everyone.)
- Can you love like Jesus? (Yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
-
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! Guess who loves you… I love you! Guess who else loves you… Jesus! Jesus loves you A LOT!”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “Dear God, thank You that Jesus is the light for (child’s name). Jesus is the light for me. Jesus is the light for… (Continue saying this with the names of people you and your child know.) Jesus is the light for everyone!”
- Bath Time: Add toy people to bath time. Encourage your child to line them up along the edge of the tub. Each time they set one down, say together, “Jesus is a light for you.” When they are done lining all of them up on the tub, say together, “Jesus is a light for everyone because Jesus loves everyone!”
- Drive Time: While on the go, look for people. How many people can you count? Talk about how Jesus is a light for everyone. Jesus wants all people to see that God loves them and how they can love one another.
