This Week In Quest Preschool :: God always hears me.

Main point: God always hears me.
Bible story: Hagar and Ishmael ● Genesis 21:4-20

As a family, read “Hagar and Ishmael” (Genesis 21:4-20) from the Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)

After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:

  • What happened in the Bible story? (Hagar and Ishmael didn’t have any water in the desert and they started to cry. An angel spoke to Hagar, and God helped her see a well of water.)
  • God heard Hagar and Ishmael in the desert. Does God hear you too? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:

    • Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! Let’s start our day by talking to God, because God loves us, and God always hears us.”
    • Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and ask them to help you pray by naming people God loves. “Dear God, thank You for loving (person’s name). (Keep going as long as your child can name people.) Thank You for loving (child’s name). You’re the best, God!”
    • Bath Time: Add things to bath time so your child can scoop and pour water. As they play, talk about how people need water to live. In the Bible, Hagar and Ishmael were in a desert and did not have any water. God was with them and heard Ishmael, so God helped Hagar and gave them water.
    • Drive Time: While on the go, look for water. Talk about how, in the Bible, Hagar and Ishmael were in a hot desert, and they did not see water anywhere. God heard Ishmael crying and helped Hagar see water, because God was always with them. And God is always with us too!
