Tech tips

Technology! For some, it’s a source of convenience – knowledge at your fingertips. For others, it’s a tutor or a virtual family hub. Can you imagine life without it? Neither can we!

But as guardians, safety is our priority – especially in the digital realm. Our kids and teens have a lot of downtime during the summer, so setting clear boundaries is a must! Here are a few tips:

  • Create rules. Tech is fun, but it comes with responsibility. Be specific! (e.g., no adding apps without permission, no tech at the dinner table, or no tech after 8:00PM, etc.)
  • Use parental controls such Bark Parental Controls or Parent Protech to help make your family’s online activities safer.
  • Set time limits and breaks. Balance is key!
  • Keep tabs on their online activity. Have regular conversations with your child/teen about their online activity. Check out how Pastors Tim and Rebekah Somers handle this in the “I Can’t Believe We’re Parents” podcast episode “The Danger of Social Media.”
