This Week in Motion Elementary :: Everyone needs forgiveness, even me.

June series: Forgiveness can be tricky to understand and even harder to show in real life. When people hurt us, our first instinct may be to retaliate or reciprocate, but that’s not what God wants for us. We’re told to show kindness and compassion to others, and in doing so, we can experience real life

Prodigal Son Luke 15:11-32

In Week 3, we explore Luke 15:11-32, where a young man asked his father for an early inheritance, left home, and spent it all quickly. When he realized he made a mistake, he went back home, expecting his dad to be mad, but instead, his dad was happy and hugged him. This story shows us everyone makes mistakes, but when we say sorry and ask for forgiveness, God always welcomes us back with love and forgiveness, just like the son’s dad did.

Family Discussion Questions:

  1. Why do you think the son decided to leave home and spend all of his money?
  2. Have you ever made a decision without thinking it through first? What happened, and what did you learn from it?
  3. Why do you think the father was so happy to see his son return, even after everything he had done?

Engage in everyday moments together this week:

  • Morning time: As your kid starts their day, affirm them by telling them something wonderful about themselves.
  • Mealtime: At a meal this week, talk about how the story can help us to share God’s love and forgiveness with others.
  • Drive time: While on the go, talk about a time when someone did something kind for you even though you felt like you didn’t deserve it. How did this make you feel?
  • Bedtime: Pray for each other, “God, help us remember all the wonderful things You’ve done for us, and give us opportunities to share Your kindness with others.”
