June series: Forgiveness can be tricky to understand and even harder to show in real life. When people hurt us, our first instinct may be to retaliate or reciprocate, but that’s not what God wants for us. We’re told to show kindness and compassion to others, and in doing so, we can experience real life.

What is forgiveness?
The Unmerciful Servant • Matthew 18:21-22
This month, we start with Matthew 18:21-22. Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus responded, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Jesus is teaches us we should always be ready to forgive others, without keeping count.
Family Discussion Questions:
- What does it mean to forgive someone?
- Why do you think Jesus said we should forgive someone “seventy-seven times” instead of just seven times?
- How can we show forgiveness to others daily?
Engage in everyday moments together this week:
- Morning time: As your kids starts their day, encourage them to think of one person they might need to forgive. Discuss how starting the day with a forgiving heart can bring joy to them and others.
- Mealtime: At a meal this week, share examples from your day where you might have had to forgive someone or wished you had.
- Drive time: While on the go, ask your kids, “What would you do if someone said something mean to you?” Discuss the different ways to respond that would honor God.
- Bedtime: Pray together and ask God to help you be more forgiving.
