Main point: God tells an angel to tell Mary she is going to have His son, Jesus.
Bible story: The Angel and Mary ● Luke 1:26-33,38
As a family, read “The Angel and Mary” (Luke 1:26-33, 38) from the Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (God sent an angel to tell Mary she was going to have a baby, and He would be God’s Son, Jesus.)
- Does God love us so much He gave us His Son, Jesus? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! I’m so excited it’s Christmas, because Christmas is when we celebrate Jesus’ birthday!”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “Dear God, thank You for loving (child’s name). Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving… (ask your child to name people God loves). I know You love us because You gave us Your Son, Jesus.”
- Bath Time: Add a toy baby and other toys to bath time. Tell your child to close their eyes, find a toy, and then open their eyes. If your child is holding the baby, say, “Yay! God has given a Son to us!” (Isaiah 9:6, NCV) If they’re holding another toy, say, “Try again!”
- Drive Time: While on the go, look for babies and baby things. How many different baby things can you find? When you’re done, talk about how God sent an angel to tell Mary she was going to have a baby named Jesus. Jesus is special because Jesus is God’s Son.
