Main point: Jesus teaches that God cares for us.
Bible story: Birds and Flowers ● Matthew 6:25-34
As a family, read “Birds and Flowers” (Matthew 6:25-34) from a children’s Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (All sorts of people went to see Jesus teach.)
- The people listened to Jesus teach important things. Does Jesus teach us God cares for us? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say: “Good morning, (child’s name)! Let’s go look out of the window and see if we see any birds or flowers. (Look together.) Jesus teaches us that God cares for the birds and flowers, and God cares even more for people!”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray: “God, thank You for sending Jesus to teach us that You will take care of us. Help us to trust You and be thankful for what we have.”
- Bath Time: Add toy food, a mixing bowl, a plastic plate, and a plastic spoon to bath time. Ask your child to cook some food for you, and when they give you food, say, “Thank you for giving me food to eat.” Talk about how Jesus teaches us not to worry about what food we will eat. God knows what we need, and God cares about us.
- Drive Time: While on the go, count how many birds you see or how many different colors of birds you can find. Talk about how Jesus teaches that if God cares enough about birds to make sure they have food, then God cares even more that people have food!
