Main point: We celebrate Christmas to show everyone that Jesus is special.
Bible story: Happy Birthday, Jesus! ● Luke 1:26-33; 38; 2:1-20
Merry Christmas! In eKidz, we’re celebrating Jesus’ birthday by learning the story of the time Jesus was born. To celebrate as a family, read and discuss the Christmas story together.
As a family, read “Happy Birthday, Jesus!” (Luke 1:26-33; 38; 2:1-20) from the Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem where Jesus was born in a stable. Angels visited shepherds in a field with their sheep and gave the good news Jesus was born. The shepherds went to see baby Jesus.)
- Jesus is God’s Son, and we celebrate His birth at Christmas! Did God give us Jesus because He loves us? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! Let’s start today with telling Jesus happy birthday since Christmas is all about Jesus’ birthday. When I count to three, say, ‘Happy birthday, Jesus!’ One, two, three… ‘Happy birthday, Jesus!’”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “Dear God, we have been doing a lot of fun things to celebrate Christmas. We just want to take time right now to say thank You for giving us Your Son, Jesus. Happy birthday, Jesus! We love You!”
- Bath Time: Add bubbles, a plastic spoon, measuring cup, and bowl to bath time. Encourage your child to pretend to make a birthday cake for Jesus. Then sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus together. Don’t forget to clap and cheer for Jesus!
- Drive Time: While on the go, name the different Christmas decorations you see. Then talk about why we celebrate Christmas with parties, food, decorations, and gifts — because it’s Jesus’ birthday! Jesus is special because Jesus is God’s Son, so we celebrate Jesus in a big way!
