Walking in “The Way” this school year

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6)

If your kids were at Middle School YTHX, they got to hear a special message from some of our YTH Directors on what it means to follow Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life. (BTW, the High School YTHX experiences are up on YouTube!)

There’s no better way to enter a new season than with this perspective, so let’s break it down practically to help us walk into the year with focus and purpose:

  1. The way: We make 35,000 decisions every day 🤯 And with each one of them, we can choose “my way” or “THE way” (Jesus’ way). Talk to your kid about what some of those decisions might look like and how they can choose “THE way.”
  2. The truth: Think about the game Truth or Dare. Dare is usually easier because a dare is about what we do — but truth is about who we are. Take time to affirm your kid in who they are in Jesus so they have no doubt when the world tells them something different! (e.g., They’re loved unconditionally (Romans 8:38), they’re fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14), and they’re chosen and valuable (1 Peter 2:9)). For younger kids, you can check out our Back To School Kit to help you!
  3. The life: When we fill our lives with wrong things, we end up feeling sick (not to mention Jesus has no room to fill us with Himself). Start talking now about rhythms your family can set so you leave home each day filled with Jesus.
