This Week In Quest :: The shepherds run to Jesus.

Main point: The shepherds run to Jesus.
Bible story: The Shepherds ● Luke 2:8-23

As a family, read “The Shepherds” (Luke 2:8-23) from a children’s Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)

After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:

  • “What happened in the Bible story? (When Jesus was born, there were shepherds in a field nearby watching their sheep. When the shepherds heard the good news, they went to visit Jesus. After they saw Jesus, they left and told others the good news of Jesus.)
  • “After the shepherds left, they went to see Jesus. Does God love us so much, He gave us His Son, Jesus?” (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:

  • Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, run to them, cuddle them and say: “It’s Christmas time, (child’s name)! I ran to cuddle you like the shepherds ran to see baby Jesus when He was born!”
  • Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray: “God, thank You for giving Jesus to every person in the whole, wide world! Help us get excited about Jesus so we can go and tell everyone, everywhere that You love them and You gave them Your Son, Jesus!”
  • Drive Time: While on the go, take turns naming different ways the shepherds could have gone to see Jesus. The shepherds could have hopped, crawled, skipped, ridden a camel, etc. How did the shepherds go see Jesus? The shepherds were so excited they RAN to see Jesus!
  • Bath Time: Add bubbles to bath time. Show your child how to scoop a small amount of bubbles and lay them on the edge of the tub to make pretend sheep. As your child makes sheep, say: “Shepherds are people who take care of sheep. God sent angels to tell shepherds that Jesus was born. The shepherds ran and found baby Jesus lying in a manger, just like the angels said.”
