This Week in Motion Elementary :: Hang out with wise people.

August series: As we “dive deep” into the Bible this month, we’ll discover God is always there to help us make wise choices. God has given us people who can help us make those wise choices too. When Jesus was a boy, He grew in wisdom. God wants us to discover wisdom too. When we make the wise choice, we reflect the character of Jesus to people around us.

Rehoboam Listens to Fools2 Chronicles 10

For week 3, we head to 2 Chronicles 10. King Solomon’s son, Rehoboam, was now king, and the people came to ask him to lighten their workload. However, when presented with the opportunity to gain the people’s trust, King Rehoboam sought out wise counsel… and unwise counsel. Unfortunately, Rehoboam chose to listen to his unwise friends, which led to bad consequences for him and for God’s people.

Family Discussion Questions:

  1. What makes someone wise?
  2. Who are some people who help you when you don’t know what to do?
  3. What steps can you begin to take to hang out with wise people?

Engage in everyday moments together this week:

  • Morning time: As your kid starts their day, tell them about a time you saw or heard about them being wise with their friends.
  • Mealtime: At a meal this week, have everyone at the table answer this question: “What is something wise you’ve seen a friend do or say?”
  • Drive time: While on the go, ask your kid, “Who are some of your closest friends right now? What do you like the most about them?”
  • Bedtime: Pray for each other: “God, surround us with wise people, and bring wise people into our lives to help us, guide us, and discover more about You.”
