Bible Story: The Mean Giant  1 Samuel 17:1-51

Bible Story Activity

WHAT YOU NEED: Bible (Use a children’s Bible if you have one.)

WHAT YOU SAY: “I love reading the Bible and spending time with Jesus. Let’s read our Bible story together right now!”

WHAT YOU DO: Read “The Mean Giant” — 1 Samuel 17:1-51. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)

 

TODDLER ACTIVITIES

Complete the activities below with your toddler to help them learn that God helps us.

August 1:

Song Activity: Every Day

WHAT YOU DO: 

-Lead your toddler in singing the following to the tune of “London Bridge is Falling Down.”

           God will help me every day,
           every day, every day.
           God will help me every day,
          and everywhere I go.

-After the activity, say, “Great job singing! Who helps you?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God helps me!”

 

August 8:

Memory Verse Activity: Memory Freeze

WHAT YOU NEED: Safari Worship Playlist 

WHAT YOU DO:

-Say, “Our memory verse reminds us that God helps us!”

-Lead your toddler in saying Psalm 54:4a three times. Say the verse, line by line, encouraging your toddler to repeat and complete the actions after you. 

“God (point up)
is my (thumbs to chest)
helper.” (extend arms forward)
Psalm 54:4a (open hands like a book)

-Then have a dance party to help your toddler remember the memory verse.
-After about 30 seconds, pause the music and encourage your toddler to stand very still or FREEZE.
-Lead them in saying the memory verse with the actions. Then turn the music on again and repeat the activity every 30 seconds.

 

August 16:

Game Activity: God Helps Me

WHAT YOU DO:

– Say, “Let’s play a game to help us learn about some of the ways God helps us!”
-Read each prompt below and encourage your toddler to respond.

  • “Point to someone in the room.” (Pause.) “God can help you share with others!”
  • “Show me your brave face.” (Pause.) “God can help you be brave when you’re feeling afraid!”
  • “Give me two thumbs-up.” (Pause.) “God can help you make right choices, even when it’s hard!”
  • “Show me your BIGGEST smile.” (Pause.) “God can help you trust Him when you’re feeling sad!”
  • “Pretend you’re driving a car.” (Pause.) “God can help you wait when you’re in a long car ride!”

-After the activity say, “Great job! God is always with us, and He helps us in so many ways. Who helps you?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God helps me!”

 

August 23:

Song Activity: Yes He Does!

WHAT YOU DO:

-Lead your toddler in singing the following to the tune of “Mary Had a Little Lamb.”

           God helps me, oh yes, He does, 
           Yes, He does. Yes, He does.
           God helps me, oh yes He does.
          He helps me every day.

   Continue the activity, but replace the word “me” with your toddler’s name each time.

           God helps (toddler’s name), oh yes, He does, 
           Yes, He does. Yes, He does.
           God helps (toddler’s name), oh yes He does.
          He helps (toddler’s name) every day.

-After the activity, say, “Great job singing! Who helps you?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God helps me!”

 

August 30:

Game Activity: No Matter What

WHAT YOU DO:
-Say, “No matter how we feel, we can remember that God is with us, and He can help us. Let’s play a fun game to help us remember that God helps us!”
-Read the prompts below and encourage toddlers to respond. 

  • “Show me your sad face.” (Pause.) God helps comfort us when we’re feeling sad!”
  • “Show me your happy face.” (Pause.) God helps us have a good attitude, even when we’re tired or angry!”
  • “Show me your scared face.” (Pause.) God helps us be brave when we’re feeling scared!”
  • “Show me your angry face.” (Pause.) God helps us have a good attitude when we’re angry.”
  • “Show me your tired face.” (Pause.) God helps us when we’re feeling tired.”

-After the activity, say, “God is always there to help us, no matter how we feel! Who helps you?” Encourage your toddler to say, “God helps me!”
