This Week in Motion Elementary :: Be ready to do the right thing.

October series: There are lots of choices we need to make in life, but what do we do when we’re confronted with all of these choices? Do we rush ahead? Or do we pause and let God lead us toward the best way to act? Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. It’s one of the ways we can tell God is transforming our lives and we’re growing in our faith. When we follow Jesus, God’s Spirit is with us and helps us make the wise choice.

Be ready to do the right thing.
Jesus Tempted in the WildernessLuke 4:1-13

We start the month in Luke 4:1-13. We see how Jesus was led into the desert by the Spirit and tempted by the devil for 40 days. Jesus was able to face these temptations because He was prepared and understood God’s Word. In this passage, we can see from Jesus’ actions how important it is to be prepared. Then, with God’s help, we’ll be able to face whatever situations come our way.

Family Discussion Questions:

  1. What’s your favorite thing about God?
  2. What is an easy or difficult choice you’ve had to make lately?
  3. How can you be ready to do the right thing?

Engage in everyday moments together this week:

  • Morning Time: As your kid starts their day, tell them about a time when you saw them make a good choice, and let them know how much you admire their decision.
  • Mealtime: At a meal this week, have everyone at the table answer this question: “What is a choice you’ve had to make this week between right and wrong? Between helping or being kind to someone — or not? What did you choose? How do you feel about your choice now?”
  • Drive Time: While on the go, ask your kid, “When have you seen someone do something good lately — either through an action or something they said?”
  • Bedtime: Pray for each other: “Jesus, when we are tempted, help us have the self-control to do what’s best.”
