November series: Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35, NIrV) However, sometimes generosity doesn’t come naturally to us. When we really enjoy the things we have, sometimes that makes it harder for us to be willing to share with others. But, with the help of God’s Spirit, we can learn that HOW we give is more important than even WHAT we give. It’s about our hearts.

God gives us good things.
Every good and perfect gift. • James 1:17a
We start the month with an insight from James 1:17a: “Every good and perfect gift is from above.” (NIV) Every good thing in our lives comes from God, starting with the gift of Jesus. When we take the time to reflect on all that God has given us, we can respond by being generous to others.
Family Discussion Questions:
- What good things has God given you?
- When is it easy to see that God gives us good things?
- When is it hard to see that God gives us good things?
Engage in everyday moments together this week:
- Morning Time: As your kid starts their day, tell them one good thing about them that you’ve noticed lately.
- Meal Time: At a meal this week, have everyone at the table answer this question: “What are some good things God has given you?” (e.g., friendships, things, food, encouragement, etc.)
- Drive Time: While on the go, ask your kid, “What is something good that has happened lately to you or a friend?”
- Bed Time: Pray for each other: “God, we thank You for the good things You have given us. May we notice examples of your kindness and generosity every day.”
