January Series: In Psalms 24:1, David wrote, “The earth belongs to the Lord. And so does everything in it.” (NIrV) God is the author of creation, and He has entrusted us to care for and cultivate the world we see around us. We do that by taking responsibility. From work we need to accomplish, to people we meet, to the words we use, life is filled with moments when we can decide to reflect God’s character, take responsibility, and use what we have wisely. When we follow through and do what needs to be done, we can point others to Jesus — the One who took the ultimate responsibility for us and made it possible for us to be with God forever.

Work hard.
Ants Marching (Ant and Sluggard) • Proverbs 6:6-8
Proverbs 6:6-8 says, “Think about the ant! Consider its ways and be wise!” (NIrV) God created ants to take responsibility and work hard storing up food for the winter months. We can look to their example as we take responsibility and work hard.
Engage in everyday moments together this week:
- Morning time: As your kid starts their day, compliment them on something you’ve seen them work hard on recently. (e.g., school, sport, instrument, etc.) It can be big or small.
- Mealtime: At a meal this week, have everyone at the table answer this question: “What is something you could put some extra effort into — something you want to learn or get better at?”
- Drive time: While on the go, ask your kid: “Who is someone you know who is a hard worker?”
- Bedtime: Pray for each other: “God, help us work hard at the things you give us to do and to do our best.”
