This Week in Motion :: You can have joy because God sent Jesus.

December Series: With the busyness of the Christmas season, it’s easy to lose sight of why we celebrate in the first place. We forget that at the time of the first Christmas, God’s people were anticipating a Rescuer who would come and save the world. That’s why this December, we’re “decking the halls” to focus on nothing but Christmas. Because of Jesus, it’s possible for us to have a relationship with God that will last forever. This month, take time to remember the reason we celebrate in the first place: Jesus, the greatest gift the world has ever known.

You can have joy because God sent Jesus.
Repeat the Sounding Joy (Jesus Is Born) • Luke 2:1-7

On the surface, when reading Luke 2:1-7, it might have seemed like nothing was going right for Mary and Joseph: a census and no room for them to stay, not to mention giving birth in a place where a whole lot of animals were sleeping. In spite of all that, Jesus was born! God’s rescue plan to save the world was in motion, and as we remember how Jesus was born, we can always find joy!

Engage in everyday moments together this week:

  • Morning Time: As your kid starts their day, tell them a way they bring you joy.
  • Meal Time: At a meal this week, have everyone at the table answer this question: “What is something that brings you joy? How does the story of Jesus’ birth also bring you joy?”
  • Drive Time: While on the go, ask your kid: “What is the funniest thing that has happened to you or someone you know lately?” (It can even be something they’ve seen online.)
  • Bed Time: Pray for each other: “God, thank You for sending Jesus to not only show us how to live, but also die for our sins and rise again to new life.”
