Main point: Jesus came to give the world joy.
Bible story: Shepherds and Angels ● Luke 2:8-20
As a family, read “Shepherds and Angels” (Luke 2:8-20) from the Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (On the night Jesus was born, an angel told some shepherds the good news. The shepherds went and shared the joy Jesus gave them by telling everyone the good news.)
- Jesus came to give the world joy. Can you have joy all the time? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
-
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people! Jesus wants to be your friend forever!”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “God, thank You for loving ALL people so much that You gave us Your only Son, Jesus. Jesus is the best good news ever!”
- Bath Time: Add bubbles and a small toy to bath time. Say, “Close your eyes while I drop this toy in the bubbles. (Drop toy.) Now open your eyes and find the toy!” (Repeat.) As you play, say, “After the angel told the shepherds the good news that baby Jesus had been born, the shepherds had so much joy that they ran to FIND baby Jesus. Remember, Jesus came to give the world joy!”
- Drive Time: While on the go, see if you can find a baby. Talk about how the shepherds found baby Jesus lying in a manger, just like the angel said they would.
