This Week In Quest Preschool :: Jesus says to let my light shine.

Main point: Jesus says to let my light shine.

Bible story: Light of the World ● Matthew 5:1-2, 14-16

As a family, read “Light of the World” (Matthew 5:1-2, 14-16) from a children’s Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)

After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:

  • What happened in the Bible story? (Jesus was on a mountain with His friends, the disciples. While they were there, Jesus began to teach.)
  • When Jesus taught on the mountain, He taught we should shine our light. Can you shine your light by doing what Jesus says? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:

  • Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! It’s time to open your curtains so the light is not hiding. Jesus says to let our light shine too. Don’t hide it. Shine it!”
  • Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “God, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to show us how to love each other. Help us do what Jesus says so our light will shine for the world to see that Jesus loves them and wants to be their friend forever.”
  • Bath Time: Add bubble bath and a few bath toys to bath time. Use everything in the tub (e.g., toys, bubbles, wash cloth, etc.) to play a game of Simon Says. As you dry your child off, say, “That was fun! You can do what Jesus says too! Jesus loves you and will always know what’s best for you.”
  • Drive Time: While on the go, look for the brightest light you can find. Talk about what makes that light shine so bright. Then, talk about how doing what Jesus says is what makes our light shine bright!
