Main point: Jesus wants everyone to follow Him.
Bible story: Follow Me ● Matthew 9:9-12, Luke 5:1-11
As a family, read “Follow Me” (Matthew 9:9-12, Luke 5:1-11) from a children’s Bible. (CLICK HERE for children’s Bible recommendations.)
After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:
- What happened in the Bible story? (Jesus chose 12 people, from different jobs and families, to follow Him and become His friends, the disciples.)
- Does Jesus want everyone to follow him? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation:
- Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! After I get a big hug from you, I want you to follow me to breakfast, like Jesus’ friends, the disciples, followed Him!”
- Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “God, thank You that Jesus wants everyone to follow Him. We pray that (name friends and family together) will follow Jesus.”
- Bath Time: Add four toy people to bath time. Put three of them in different places around the edge of the tub. The fourth toy will be Jesus. Show your child how to walk “Jesus” around the tub. Each time “Jesus” passes a toy person, “Jesus” will say, “Follow me,” until you both have a toy person in each hand following “Jesus” around the tub. Talk about how Jesus wants everyone to be His friend forever and follow Him.
- Drive Time: While on the go, play follow the leader — visiting a park, going to and from your car, around your yard, etc. Talk about how Jesus asked 12 people to follow Him, and they did! They became His friends, the disciples.
